How it Works
The DuoFertility fertility monitor maximises your chances of getting pregnant naturally. It uses a much more sophisticated version of the body basal temperature (BBT) measurement method to identify when you are most likely to get pregnant, up to six days in advance. This gives you plenty of time to plan intercourse for the best time of the month.
The DuoFertility fertility monitor consists of a small sensor and a hand-held reader. The sensor is attached to an adhesive patch, about 3cm in diameter, which is worn discreetly under the arm. It records your temperature continuously and determines when you have ovulated using a much more sophisticated version of the basal body temperature (BBT) method. The technology has been shown to be 99% accurate at detecting the most fertile days of a women’s cycle, and has completely eliminated the need to wake up early to take temperature measurements.
The sensor automatically measures and records your skin temperature, taking approximately 20,000 temperature measurements while you sleep (compared to just one measurement per day by most competing products). This allows easy detection of the upward shift in basal body temperature which is associated with ovulation.
Data is transferred from the sensor to the DuoFertility reader wirelessly. You will then be able to see a simple display of your fertility status over the next six days on your reader, giving you plenty of time to plan a romantic evening in! You can consult the reader at your convenience - there is no need to have it with you all the time, and you don't have to use it at any particular time of the day or week.
The DuoFertility reader can also combine the temperature measurements collected by the sensor with additional fertility clues that you may record such as cervical mucus quality and menstruation. This allows it to determine your day of ovulation even more precisely, with 99.7% accuracy.
You also have the option to view more information about your cycles by simply plugging the reader into your PC. This will allow you to visualize your temperature data and add or edit more fertility information. In addition, you can ask for an in-depth report about your cycles from one of our fertility specialists. It may be helpful for you to discuss this with your doctor and this may prove useful for the early detection of any potential fertility problems.
The Reader
The DuoFertility reader is the only outward sign that you are using a fertility monitor. It is available in a wide range of colours and we have made sure that the symbols on it are sufficiently vague that its function is not clear to other people.
The DuoFertility sensor records temperature continously in order to determine your ovulation date and your most fertile days. If you would just like a simple indication of when you are most fertile, you can simply read off your fertility status from the light-scale on your reader. Alternatively, you can plug your reader into your PC and use the DuoFertility software if you wish to see your profile and temperature graph in greater detail.
Furthermore, if you wish you can enter in your reader a wide range of fertiliy clues, such as cervical mucus quality or ovulation pain, which helps to create an even more accurate picture of your cycle. Entering additional fertility clues into your reader may increase the accuracy of detection up to 99.7%.
Rest assured – your data will remain completely confidential. The sensor and the reader are linked to each other by codes, and nobody else will be able to access your data unless they put your personal reader under your arm.

Enter In Additional Parameters
You may wish to enter in additional physiological parameters (fertility clues), such as the quality of your cervical mucus. This will help to refine the prediction of the most fertile period of your cycle. Studies have shown that, in conjunction with measuring your temperature, this can increase the accuracy of detection to 99.7%.
You do not have to enter in these additional parameters if you do not wish to do so - whatever your decision, DuoFertility will still be accurate at detecting ovulation.
Plug The Reader Into Your Computer
You may not find the light scale on the reader informative enough. In this case, simply plug the reader into your computer and you will be able to view your data in greater detail. You will be able to do this whether or not you have been entering in your fertility clues. You can even help to refine the analysis by entering more information directly into the software.

Interpreting my Fertility Status
After you have transferred your data from the sensor to the reader, your fertility status will be displayed when the DuoFertility icon lights up in green. Your fertility status for the previous two days and the next six days will then be displayed on the light scale on the reader. Each section on the reader scale represents a different day, and the light intensity of each section represents your fertility status on each day. Each section may be:
Completely Black
This indicates that you are not in the fertile period of your cycle.
A Dim Light
This indicates that your fertility status is low.
A Strong Light
This indicates that this is one of the best days for you to try for a baby.
A flashing light on the light scale indicates that ovulation has occurred. This is a confirmation that ovulation has already occurred, so you will only see it as one of the “previous days”. A red light indicates the day of your menstruation.
The Sensor
The DuoFertility sensor is roughly the size of a small button. It is worn under the arm where it is held in place with a specially designed adhesive. The sensor continuously collects roughly 20,000 temperature measurements throughout the night and day, which enables it to identify your body basal temperature. This data is then used to identify when ovulation has occurred, which will in turn help to identify your fertile window and the best time for you to have intercourse.
Unlike other fertility devices, with DuoFertility, you don’t have to worry about measuring your temperature every day – all you have to do is wear the sensor and get on with the rest of your life! We recommend that you wear the sensor continuously in order to improve the accuracy of your temperature measurements. If you want to go out, or if you are wearing a bikini and do not want to wear the sensor, you can remove it during the day, but it is very important that you remember to put it back on when you go to bed so that data is available every single night.
How Do I Access my Data
Your fertility data is recorded and stored on the DuoFertility sensor, but to be able to view it, you need to transfer it to the reader. To do so, use the scroll-wheel on the reader to scroll through the function lights until the "read" icon (the DuoFertility logo) is highlighted. Once it is highlighted, the read icon will flash orange/green if sufficient recent data has been downloaded to estimate fertility. You should then press the central button of the reader and position the reader so that the central button is resting against the sensor. The reader will make a single beep to indicate that it has started reading, and two beeps (low then high) to indicate that it has finished reading. The display will then revert to flashing orange/green, and your fertility will be displayed on the reader's light scale. Reading of your data should take around 5 seconds per day of recorded data.
If you wish, you can view your fertility status in more detail on your PC through the DuoFertility software after plugging the reader into the computer with a USB cable (provided). Or if you would still like further information, you can ask one of our fertility experts to have a look at your results.
If you wish to view your fertility status in greater detail, you can simply plug your reader into your computer via your USB port. This will allow you to view a detailed display of the temperature data that has been collected by the DuoFertility sensor, and the fertility predictions that have been made. It will also allow you to see a detailed picture of your cycle without having to wait to see a specialist.
With the DuoFertility software, you can:

Record additional information, such as details of any infertility medication that you are taking or alternative treatments that you are undergoing

You can use the temperature chart to check your menstrual cycles for any anomalies and to make sure that you are ovulating regularly. Entering information about different types of medication that you are taking can also help you to understand your cycles as different types of medication can affect the body’s temperature regulation and may affect the data collection of the DuoFertility device. Information about any alternative treatments that you are undergoing, such as acupuncture or osteopathy, may help you to get a clearer picture of your cycle since these treatments may also interfere with the DuoFertility analysis if they alter the way in which your body responds. If you wish, you can show your temperature chart to your doctor; this may help him or her to quickly identify problems with your menstrual cycle and may help you to get an early referral to a specialist if needed.
The software runs directly from the DuoFertility reader, so you don’t need to install anything onto your computer. If you have an internet connection, you can download updates to the reader analysis software (so that estimates of your fertility become more accurate), as well as sending your data to our team of fertility experts for further analysis.
